Motion trigger settings

You would probably have to up the motion detection sensitivty to be really sensitive. You know you shouldn't be recording other peoples property, so I hope you own that house where the man/ area is.

It's currently vacant and the local gang is using it for staging and to evade police. Don't need to record them on the property, just need an alert when they're accessing it through the alley. I would guess you would need to know where I am to begin to make any statements about the legality.

This area is going to be tricky. It's quite far away and people here appear small in the frame. In addition, people won't stand out well in front of the messy background, and there is a bunch of foliage there that obscures a large section of the alley. Also your camera appears to be looking through a window, which will degrade image quality, especially at night when light will reflect on the window back into the camera.
In the image you posted I think I can see a person, but even with a daytime image, even I can't really tell with confidence if a person is there or not - the algorithm will have an even harder time, and especially at night.
My advice would be to either:
- Use continuous recording instead. Motion detection won't be accurate here, no matter the settings. I understand this doesn't get you the alerts you want, but it will at least achieve a record of activity.
- Install a camera, on the outside of your property, that is zoomed in so that this area fills the frame. This would require a camera with a longer lens, or a varifocal / PTZ camera where the zoom range can be adjusted. Such a camera should have powerful built-in IR illumination, if there isn't enough natural light around the scene you want to record.

There is already continuous recording. The question is about alerts, not captures. I need to know when they first show up over here so I can start trying to get the police to show up... there is little value in video. It was fine in SS3 but I need help dialing it in in SS6. IN fact, I accidentally launched SS3 yesterday after accidentally quitting SS6, didn't realized it at first, and was almost going to report back that it was fine now until I realized I was in SS3.

The foliage is not normally there.. they just cleared out trees and brush and piled it there.

It's interesting that v3 was performing more in line with what you are expecting here. There are certainly major differences between the motion detection algorithm in v3 and v6 - it has evolved a lot over the years. There's always a balance between false negatives (missed events) vs. false positives (erroneous triggers), and the default settings won't be right for every user and every camera/install location. To try to replicate the sensitivity that you were seeing before, try these settings, as set under Settings > Cameras > Triggers > Advanced Options:
- Motion trigger duration: 0.5s
- Motion detection sensitivity: 70

Thanks, will do. Already set to .5 sec. Current settings Motion 60, human 90, vehicle 60, animal 90. Will try everything on 70 for now and see what happens.
