Limited to 5 Cameras on Laptop Running "trial" software, despite 12 Camera License on iMac?

The iMac runs SS with the 12 camera license in a "server room" and we use our laptop around the rest of the cabin to monitor the cameras during our day to day. The laptop is running a "trial" instance of SS and allows us to see 5 of our cameras but if we try to add any more, it just adds a black window that says "trial expired." Is there anyway to see more cameras on the client/trial instance?

With an unlicensed viewer, you must configure it to pull the video feeds from your licensed SecuritySpy server, not from the cameras directly - information on how to set this up is here: SecuritySpy as Remote Viewing Software. You are getting the "trial expired" message most likely because you are trying to add the cameras directly.

If you want the laptop to pull video feeds directly from the cameras (e.g. to avoid load on the server), two inexpensive solutions are:

    1. Purchase a 1-camera license for the laptop - the first camera will operate fully while any number of additional cameras will operate in view-only mode.
    2. Purchase our ViewCam software, which is designed for the purpose of viewing live video directly from IP cameras.
  • Thanks Ben, I'll take a look.

Ben, I've set up a trial of your ViewCam software and it's doing what I need. However I do have one camera that I need to flip the feed upside down (no such option in the camera settings itself). I am able to do that in SS, but don't see that option in ViewCam. Is that something that might be added or perhaps I'm looking in the wrong spot?

  • Actually for the ones that I needed to flip, I connected to them through the SS server and so they come through flipped. That works!

  • That's a great solution!

As you have discovered, this feature doesn't exist in ViewCam. Virtually all cameras have such an option built-in, so this is the first time it has come up as an issue. We'll consider adding this option to ViewCam in the future, as it would certainly come in handy in these cases.
